Our AI tools help you get to the point of a document fast: Summarize PDF turns a long report or contract into a short set of key points, and Chat with PDF lets you ask it questions and get answers grounded in the text.
These are the only tools on Ream that use the cloud. They are opt-in: the document’s text is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to do the work, only after you agree, and it is not stored. Every other tool runs entirely on your device. If a document is too sensitive to share with a third-party AI service, use the on-device tools instead.

Which AI tools are there?
Summarize PDF gives you the key points of a document; Chat with PDF answers your questions about it.
Are these private like the other tools?
These are the exception: they send the document’s text to our AI provider (Anthropic) after you consent. It is not stored, and it is not used to train the model. Every other Ream tool runs on your device.
Do they work on scanned PDFs?
Yes — if a PDF is a scan with no text, Ream automatically runs OCR first (free, on our server), then the AI works on the text.
What language is the answer in?
The summary or answer comes back in the language of your document or question — German in, German out, and so on.
Is it free?
Yes — free, with a fair-use limit to keep the service running.
