Private by design. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed in an isolated sandbox with no internet access, then deleted the instant it’s done. We never store it or read it. How this works

Word to PDF converts a Microsoft Word document (DOC or DOCX) into a PDF, so your CV, cover letter, contract or report looks exactly right wherever it’s opened. A PDF freezes the fonts, spacing and page breaks in place — no more layouts shifting on someone else’s computer or a missing font wrecking your design.

Because a faithful conversion needs a full office engine, this tool runs on Ream’s hardened server rather than in your browser: your file travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection, is converted in an isolated sandbox, and is deleted the moment it’s done. It’s free, with no account and no watermark on your document. It also reads OpenDocument Text (ODT) and RTF.

How it works

W DOCX to PDF PDF layout kept

Ream opens your document in a headless office engine and prints it to PDF, carrying across your fonts, headings, tables, images and page layout. The result is a portable, fixed document that looks identical everywhere and cannot be edited by accident — ideal for sending, printing or archiving. Need to go the other way and edit a PDF as Word? Use PDF to Word.

How to Word to PDF

  1. Add your Word file

Drop a DOC, DOCX, ODT or RTF file onto the box above, or click to browse.

  2. Convert to PDF

Ream renders the document with every font, table and image in place.

  3. Download the PDF

Save your new PDF — your upload is wiped from the server straight after.

Will my formatting stay the same?

W Word to PDF PDF fonts embedded

Yes. A full office engine reproduces your document faithfully — the same fonts, margins, headings, bullet lists, tables and images, with the page breaks where you put them. This is the big advantage over copy-pasting into another program, which almost always shifts the layout. A couple of things worth knowing:

  • Unusual fonts are embedded so they display correctly even if the reader does not have them installed.
  • Tracked changes and comments convert as they appear in the document — accept or hide them in Word first if you do not want them in the PDF.
  • To shrink the PDF after converting an image-heavy document, run it through Compress PDF.

Why send a PDF instead of a Word file?

Three reasons professionals convert to PDF before sending:

  • It looks right everywhere. The recipient sees your exact layout, not a version reflowed by a different Word release or a phone.
  • It cannot be changed by accident. A PDF is a finished document, not an editable draft — important for contracts, invoices and applications.
  • It always opens. Every device can read a PDF without Microsoft Office installed.

On Mac, Windows or your phone

Ream runs in the browser, so converting Word to PDF works the same on any system — no Office licence and nothing to install. Open the tool on Windows, on a Mac, or on an iPhone or Android phone, add your file and download the PDF. It is the quickest option when you are on a device that does not have Word, or you simply do not want to open it.
