Private by design. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed in an isolated sandbox with no internet access, then deleted the instant it’s done. We never store it or read it. How this works
PDF to Excel finds the tables in your PDF and rebuilds them as an editable XLSX spreadsheet, with the rows and columns dropped into real cells. It’s the fast way to get numbers out of a statement, invoice or report and into a spreadsheet where you can sort, total and chart them.
Reconstructing tables needs a real engine, so this runs on Ream’s hardened server: your file is sent over HTTPS, processed in an isolated sandbox, and deleted immediately afterwards. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.
How it works
Ream scans each page for table structures — lines, columns and aligned text — and writes what it finds into spreadsheet cells, one sheet per page. Because it’s reconstructing tables rather than copying a picture, the numbers land as real, editable values you can work with.

Getting the best results
PDF to Excel works best when the PDF has genuine tables — clear rows and columns, ideally with gridlines. Statements, invoices, price lists and exported reports convert cleanly. A few pointers:
- Text-based tables convert far better than scans. If your PDF is a scan, run OCR first to add a text layer.
- Merged or nested cells and heavily designed tables may need a quick tidy-up afterwards.
- Each page becomes its own sheet, so a multi-page report stays organised.
Excel or Word?
If your document is mostly numbers in a table, choose PDF to Excel — the data lands in cells you can calculate with. If it’s mostly prose with the odd table, PDF to Word keeps the text and layout better. And to just read the raw values, PDF to Text is the quickest.
When you’ll use it
- Getting figures from a bank or card statement into a spreadsheet.
- Pulling a price list or catalogue into editable rows.
- Turning an exported report back into workable data.
- Collecting numbers to sort, total or chart.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF to Excel?
Add the PDF and click Run PDF to Excel. Ream detects the tables and gives you an editable .xlsx spreadsheet.
Will the numbers be editable?
Yes — detected tables are written into real cells, so you can sort, total and chart the values.
It didn’t find my table — why?
The PDF is probably a scan (an image), which has no table data to read. Run OCR first, then convert.
What about merged or complex cells?
They usually convert, but heavily designed or nested tables may need a quick tidy-up in Excel afterwards.
Is this processed in my browser?
No — it runs on a hardened server. Your file is sent over HTTPS, processed in isolation, and deleted immediately afterwards.
Do I need Excel installed?
No. The .xlsx opens in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and other spreadsheet apps.
Is my file stored anywhere?
No. It is deleted immediately after processing.
